TV Show Fav

Big Bang is my current favorite show. I find the intro pretty creative too. This painting wasn't made the day of the assignment, but it fit so well that I had to cheat a little.

It's Hip to be Square

This composition was to be made up of squares. Before I had done a paint chip square one so I decided to do crayon rubbings of some stamps I have made. This is an overlay of colors, shifiting the stencil under neath - like leaf rubbings.

Salty art

The assignment today was to create a picture out of salt. It is fun to manipulate granular materials - sort of like playing in the sand. Someday I might glue one down, but for now I'll just take a picture and throw the salt over my shoulder.

Junk Mail

A repeat of a previous prompt - junk mail creations. Our mailbox is teeming with political flyers. Here's what I do with most - aiming at the trash can.

Inside/outside

Is it my imagination, or are these assignments getting less and less inspiring? Maybe I'm just getting tired. Next year I'm planning to do a weekly major art project that has substance! Anyway, this assignment was to make an outside place seem like inside. Since I like to be outside, now that it isn't 110 in the shade, this was easy, peasy.

Brown

Work only with brown materials today, on a brown surface. I really love collage - partly because you can compose and rearrange the elements with such ease.

Cuddly?

Today make something that would normally be considered cute and cuddly into something that isnt. This is a charcoal sketch of my cute and cuddly cat, who with his over-sized claws has destroyed all my upholstered furniture. I really love him, because I cannot replace any of it while he is with us, and I do want him to live a long time.

Veggie Carving

You may have carved a pumpkin before, but what about a turnip, apple or pepper? I am tired of eating a lot of yellow squash - the only successful thing in my garden this summer - so I will gladly carve on it. This one already looked like a bird, so a few cuts and pokes finished it.

Legos

I am to make something out of legos today. Since they are usually three dimensional, today I will do two dimensional. This is reminiscent of Mondrian. I call this "Composition in red, black and white," Real original, huh!

Jackson Pollack

Today I am to copy a famous artist. I choose Jackson Pollack and his wild splashes of paint - harder than it looks!

Dragon

Today I am to start a drawing and then have someone else finish it. Poor Stan; he gets stuck with my projects! So this is my and Stan's creation of a fire-breathing dragon. Photo is color-enhanced (which makes it look far more impressive than the pencil drawing!)

Behind the Door

Create a door that functions and what is beyond that door is the prompt. I chose a rough, brown paper for my door material. I attached it to a bookmark a friend brought me from Israel several years ago. So, this is the door to Bethlehem (and all that entails!)

Venn Diagram

Using the idea of a pie chart, flow chart or Venn diagram create something unexpected and non-business realated. I started out with the intersecting circles, kind of boring. So I added some lines and tear-drop shapes for more variety. Colored pencils finished the little design.

Window view

This prompt was to imagine what you would like to see beyond your window. We just had a marvelous trip to Machu Picchu so I'm dreaming of the beautiful views we saw and photographed.

Pocket Change

This assignment was to do something with coins. I stacked them out, spread them out....didn't seem to get anywhere. In frustration I snapped a photo and played with the color....Now that I look at it I should have outlined the profile of a face; sort of a repeat of the heads on the coins. By now I've lost interest....

Spin the Globe

Southeast Asia is where we landed. My niece and her husband live in China and she sent me this beautiful card years ago. There is a quietness about Chinese art that I love.

Soda Can

Inspiration by soda can! I thought a lantern for a candle was a good idea. It's amazing how easily aluminum cans can be cut and curled. I gave it a little photographic enhancement so the Coke ad wasn't quite so prominant.

Sandy

I've always been fascinated by those little carefully manicured Zen gardens. So this is my version of a quiet sandy spot with interesting patterns and textures.

Back to the Future

Make something that seems like it has come from the future is the cue. As a believer in the afterlife, I envision a heavenly future. I've always wanted to play a harp, so there I am, sitting on a cloud making heavenly music!

Ice melt

The prompt was to work with ice cubes and document their melting. I couldn't get into this one because of the shape of the cubes, and I didn't want to spend time freezing some desireable shapes, so this became a photography project. I like the way the wet glass reflects patterns and colors.

Toothbrush art

Use a toothbrush and/or toothpaste as the central component of what you do today was the assignment. I chose spatter paint with a toothbrush and acrylic paint. To give it some sort of focal point, I scrubbed, dabbed and streaked with the brush.

Balloons

The assignment was to use a balloon (inflated or deflated) to create something. I first tried to stretch flat balloons into some sort of design, but couldn't figure out how to attach them - without making holes in them. So the next thought wa to decorate a balloon and "dress" it. Not too creative but a project done....let's move on!
