Extension

Start with an item of interest in a painting or an existing photo and then extend your picture out from the center. I used an interesting sketch of a lone pine tree in the center and then created a framework of evergreens, lake and sky. I like this one.

Half n half

Combine two things today to make a new creation. Rebecca and I had been making mono-prints. When we were finished I scraped the center of what she had left on the glass and came up with this gate composition.

Book Jacket

Create a new book cover for a favorite book today. I choose this photo of reeds along the MKT trail for a book on the history of the Missouri river and its beauty.

Brain

Today I am to use an internal organ as inspiration. These photos I took of lichen remind me of a picture of the brain - especially the heat-map, color enhanced version.

Loud

Make something "loud" today. Can be in loud color, pattern or shape. This is another paint scrapings creation - looks like an ugly bug.

Rainbow

From items on your work table, create an unusual rainbow. I used paint tubes that were lined up in rainbow order for this one.

Bleach

Work with bleach to make something by taking away color. This was fun, and I was careful to not get any bleach on my clothes! I used a dark blue paper and plain old bleach to create this little dancer.

Cityscape

Use objects on hand to create a city. I had done this before, but wanted to take it a little farther. Interesting what you can do with found objects.

Frozen

Create the illusion that time has stopped. I used a crystal Chrismas ornament for this photo and then gave it a sepia tone. Looks icy to me.

Digital

Make something natural look digital (jagged edges, pixilation, etc.) I took this photo through a crystal which distorted the limbs and foliage into a pixilated composition.

Airmail

The assignment today was to add wings or a tail to something that wouldn't normally have them. We have been getting a lot of Christmas mail so my mind was on airmail...

Goldfinger

Work only with gold materials today. Try working on a gold surface for an extra challenge. This is a gold composition of found items (gold) I had in my art supply closet.

Appetizing

Make something unappetizing seem appetizing - but don't let anyone eat it by accident! I used these beads because they look so much like lifesaver hard candy. (Wasn't too inspired by this assignment.)

Repeat

Make a repeating image by folding paper and cutting out shapes or patterns. I used colored tissue for this and then gave it a little photo effect help.

Stars

Use stars orother outer space items for inspiration today. I have been photographing Christmas images, so I took this one of a star ornament and gave it a color workover to get a new effect.

Boring/exciting

The prompt is to take something boring and turn it into something exciting. This is a photo of a prism from which I was trying to get a rainbow. All I got was a white cube. I color enhanced the photo to catch the nuances in the reflected white light. Pretty interesting what's hiding in those photos!

Desk stuff

Today's prompt is to work only with things on your desk today. Here is my Christmas tree made of colored paper clips. One more project down!

Paper cup art

Work with a disposable cup you've gotten recently is the assignment. We went to a little sandwich shop on campus and the cups had cute little symbols on them. This is a bouquet of those symbols.

Strange faces

Add a face to something that normally doesn't have one. This is my twine ball with a face. Ho, hum...

Events

Create evidence of an event that did not take place. I chose sailing the high seas, as this is something I will not do! This is an enhanced photo of a beautiful sailing vessel from a travel brochure. I will enjoy it from my position on terra firma!

Pockets

Today I was to work only with things from my pockets. I had several (unused!) tissues in my pockets, so here is my kleenex roses composition.

Far Away

Create something that is viewed from far away. These are photos of the full moon last night. Not only was the weather great, the views were spectacular.

Mobile

Make a moving creation....When I took apart my bar code I ended up with two strips of double face tape and lots of ribbon adhered to it. I stuck it on my drafting lamp and it has been moving with the breeze.

Timely

Make something that shows the passage of time...  I chose this old piece of sheet music with a Christmas carol. Seems Christmas always makes me aware of time passing too quickly - of what is really lasting and meaningful about life.
