Light

Work with light. Create images using unusual light sources. A few nights ago we had a Blue Moon. Since that only happens once.....  It was time to get out the camera. Here are a couple of images I got shooting the sky from my driveway. The top one has been manipulated by posterizing. The bottom one by adding a touch of neon. I really like messing around with photos.

Rainbow colors

The assignment was to ask a friend you haven't talked to in a while for a suggestion of what to do today. My friend Marie suggested working with rainbow colors. At first I thought I'd just do a watercolor of a rainbow in a stormy sky. Before I got started on that, I ran across a paint swatch book as I was cleaning out my art closet. I've always loved paint swatch displays or spools of colored thread arranged in rainbow arrangements. Here a few photos of fun with the paint swatch book. Thanks, Marie!

Bottled

Make something inside a bottle of any size. I found a box of these little bottles with medicine droppers at a garage sale last spring. Although I didn't know why, I really wanted to buy them. Later I thought about making essential oils in them and even planted some lavender to use. This one has crushed rosemary in it as an experiment in how to make essential oils. I have great plans for many scents - so watch out for Christmas presents....

Medicine cabinet

Today's creating assignment is to use things from the medicine cabinet or a first aid box. I couldn't come up with anything beyond "an arrangement" photo. Sometimes they just don't materialize - there's always tomorrow!

Fish

Use fish as your inspiration today. Well, you know how I love those fancy goldfish, so that's where this watercolor took me. As a composition it  kind of falls apart in the center so could use a little better center of interest next time, but I do like the colors and the transparency. As I have said many times, this year is 365 days of learning.

Sunset inspiration

This rather strange watercolor sort of unfolded. I started out making a fantasy landscape, just experimenting with colors and dividing up the space. I think that the heat is beginning to effect my work! I like the altered photo version (inverted colors) best, as it seems to pull the colors together better. That tells me I wasn't very judicious in my color palette when painting. Everything is a learning experience!

Toothpick creation

Today's task was to make something out of toothpicks. I chose a hedgehog. Actually he looks more like a porcupine, as hedgehogs are cuter. Project done!
