Edible stained glass

The assignment was to make something out of food - that is edible, but does not look like food. I made a plate of Jiggly Jello and cut it into shapes. I placed the shapes on a piece of glass and used the light table to create the stained glass illusion. It really did turn out like stained glass and I like the way the transparency makes different color tones. It tasted pretty good too!

Rorschach test

Create a Rorschach test-style inkblot print.  Bonus: have your friends interpret it. So have at it, friends - What do you see? At first glance for me, there is a gaunt face at the bottom, perhaps wearing some sort of miter hat. But then again, there is a figure at the top - maybe a dancer with ethereal wings....no wait, now there is an African mask with beard...  Hmm, sounding a bit schizophrenic??

Sewing paper

This was a fun project - the assignment was to use paper instead of fabric to sew on. This is a mylar paper so kind of stiff. It worked real well for applique and a few fancy stitches. Might have a place someday in something a bit more conplicated.

Map

Make a map of (or to) a fictional or real place. Bonus to use it and see where you end up.  I thought it would be fun to map a journey through the places life has taken me. Lots of criss-cross, but then I am only 30 miles from where I was born. Guess I didn't get very far in life!

Personal Shelter

Today's assignment was to create a personal shelter. It brought to mind the Bible verse about being in the shelter of God's wing. The idea is that God creates a safe place for us even in the midst of troubles and dangers. I wasn't entirely hapy with the wing - may work on it some more.

Bones

Use bones, skulls and/or skeletons as your inspiration today. I settled on a deer leg bone I've been hoarding and decided to do a scrimshaw type design on it. The roundness of the bone didn't work real well for me.

Hair

The directions were to save the hair form your next haircut and work with it, or use pet hair. This kind of grossed me out. At first I thought I'd use cat hair, but then couldn't think of anything to make out of it. I ran across some synthetic hair in the craft box that was to be used to make dolls, and decided that would be better. Real original....ha!

Eye Wear

Build a pair of eyeglasses conjures up Elton John for some reason, in my mind! So I got wild with this mask, which probably doesn't qualify for glasses, but is a form of eye wear. I was supposed to wear them for a day, but that didn't seem to doable since I needed groceries and it's 102 degrees. So, another project down and that's about all that can be said.

Something New/Something Old

This assignment was to make something new look old. Lately I have not been very inspired (too much watering out in the heat, I suppose) so I've been taking the easy way out on most of these, just to keep the project moving. This is an old scarf pin - I antiqued it with black and green paint.

Unseasonal

Create something that would belong in another season of the year and put into the environment - extra credit for documenting it every hour.

This is an ice sculpture over a 4 hour period in 100+ degree July weather. It really is amazing that it melted that slowly. The fish enjoyed the cool rain.

Leaf book

O.K. this is one of the wierdest ones.... make a book out of something that would not normally be pages of a book. The next project was to make something of your lunch. I combined the two and made a lettuce leaf book/cream cheese and veggie sandwich.

Sunset

Look at the sky after the sun goes down today and make something inspirational. This is a photo of the sky looking north. This was not a spectacular show of color as sunsets go, but I like the impressionistic pastels.

Flag

Make a flag for a new country or other flag creation. It's almost football season again and there is much hype about the SEC, so here is my version of a flag for the home team. Go Team!

Monster

Create a scary monster that has never existed before. I thought a three eyed creature with a foot for one hand an horns would be pretty scary. Obviously, I'm not going to win any awards for sci fi fictional creatures. I do have a little more admiration for the creativity of those who do!

Shadows and hands

Shadows and puppets was the assignment. This is really performance art, so doesn't illustrate well in a photo. When we were kids we used to entertain ourselves at bedtime with shadow puppets on the wall. The third photo was the result of a new night light. When I came out of the bedroom there was a monstery looking shadow on the ceiling created by the back of the chair.

Family Crest

The assignment was to make a family crest for your own family. We do not have a family crest, at least that I know of so here it is. I used things that are important to our family, like education, music, creativity and family as symbols. Our immediate family all went to MU so that is included. The computer component didn't come across real well but you get the drift.

Sugar, sugar

Be sweet! Use sugar as your medium or inspiration today...  So I played with the sugar. Sort of looks like the sand dunes. Don't see much future in sugar art, so I put it back in the container.

Newspaper something...

Work with a newspaper to make the biggest thing you can. Well, I didn't want anything too large, made of newspaper in my house, so I used an entire two-spread comic section to make a gianormous doily. Actually it turned out kind of pretty, don't think I'll keep it though.

Something Quiet

Simple assignment today....make something quiet. This is my current journal for my deep thoughts. (Sometimes I have a deep thought!) Just the look of these books and my pen lead me to quiet myself.

Skyline photos

Using the skyline of your hometown create something today. These are from the intersection of Scott and KK. I had fun playing with these to get various effects.

Paper bags

I have been creating regularly, but not posting, so today I'm playing catch-up! Another project I did with Rebecca is to use paper bags to create something new today. We used dark green bags and did a stamping project with white and pink paint. Then we added trim - original gift bags.
